BASIC INFORMATION
In nineties of twenth century decay of agricultural cooperatives arosed resulting in breakdown of livestock and plant production and accompanied by neglect of duty to care about water resources. As a result there are troubles with operating wells, number of which is now deficient. Excessive use of remaing wells is resulting in decrease of underground water level, water contamination and wells damage. Next problem is increase in water demand in cities because of mass migration of herdsmen from countryside. This situation occured in Orkhon province and especially in Erdenet city.
The aim of this project was to mitigate problems with water supply by means of finding of new water resources and construction of wells and to set up water balance of Orkhon province and adjacent areas together with water management plan for development of pasturelands, agricultural fields and residential towns. Two areas have been selected as a project areas – Zalugiin gol, situated 10 – 15 km west of Erdenet, with continuously extending yurt area and Ulaan Tolgoi, located 15 – 20 km east of Erdenet, with residential town Jargalant.
